Florida economists recently said counties will cover nearly $420M of the state's healthcare program this fiscal year, as potential property tax cuts threaten local revenue.
Largest county shares this fiscal year were Miami-Dade $69.4M, Broward $34.7M, Hillsborough $30.9M, Orange $26.7M, and Duval $22.7M, reflecting their larger populations.
County healthcare contributions are expected to reach nearly $452M next fiscal year, when the ballot measure would take effect if voters approve it in Mid-Q4.
The measure would raise Florida's homestead exemption for non-school property taxes from $50K to $250K by 2028, with first-year city and county revenue ↓nearly $5B.
Florida had nearly 3.9M healthcare program enrollees as of June 30, 2026, and 29 fiscally constrained counties have part of their required shares offset.
